Diesel is a great senior dog.  He knows his commands, walks great on a leash and is very sweet.  He is overweight, but we have put him on a diet and an exercise program:) Diesel gets along great with our resident dog, all the humans that he comes in contact with and is respectful of all other animals. He met my father's toy poodle and just sat there to let Teddy come to him. Diesel really is a super sweet man who just wants to be loved

Diesel is coming back into the program, as his current owners no longer have the time to spend with him.  Diesel has had a few stops on his journey and the next one  needs to be his "forever home".  Diesel is a very sweet boy that will make someone a wonderful companion.  He would do best in a home with a canine companion or in a home where someone is home more often than not, as he does have a bit of separation anxiety.

“Hi everyone.   Diesel here.   I’m in my forever home,  finally!   There’s been a few stops on the way that were not the right home for me but my new family is just Perfect!  I have the best fur brother (he’s not a Boxer but don’t tell him that) and we get along great.   I need to have him around when the people leave because I have some separation anxiety.  But with my fur brother around, I’m totally fine.  I also have two skin kids.  They love me and I love them.    And the best part is my new mom and dad.  They love me a lot already, I can tell.  I have good food, they play with me in my new big backyard and they have lots of warm beds for me in my new house.   I am so happy and want to say thanks to the nice people at The Boxer Rescue for finding me this great home.   I’m really happy.”

Diesel has now been in his new home for a little over a week, he has found a new friend and playmate in Lester, the official mascot for Boxer Rescue! Diesel is adjusting quite well! He loves to walk w/ Lester and sleep next to our bed at night.   He is learning to play with his new buddy. Yesterday he showed me that he knew how to play fetch, he grabbed a toy and took me outside, when I threw it in the yard he ran and grabbed it and brought it back to me. When I tried this game with him on day one he just sat and stared at me like he was clueless!. I think he was trying to tell me he likes his new home. More updates to follow soon!

Diesel has been at his foster home for a few days now and is settling in nicely.  He has fur step brother that he gets along with great and they love to play.  Please check back soon for more updates on Diesel as we get to know him a little better in his foster home.

Please meet Diesel.  This handsome 6 year old Boxer loves to be around people of all ages, especially young children.  Diesel loves going for walks (and is great on a leash!) and visiting the local dog parks.  For a treat, Diesel loves showing off his skills of sit, down, stay and come.  After a fun filled day of lounging around the house or visiting with friends, Diesel loves to snuggle up on the couch and watch tv or read a book with you.  Generally speaking Diesel is a laid back kind of guy but when out with other dogs he loves to run around and play.  If you even mention the word C-A-R, Diesel's ears will perk right up and he will run to the closest exit.  While driving in the car he loves to either lounge in the back sear or ride shotgun saying hello to all of the passing cars. Diesel is a super easy going dog, he even loves his baths! Diesel is most happy when he is not alone so he would do best in a house with another dog to keep him company when his owners are out. Diesel has a small grade II/VI heart murmur.  He has been thoroughly checked out by a cardiologist who feels it will not prevent any problems for him in the future and he has shown no signs of any issues due to the small murmur.  Diesel also had a small tumor removed from his side  It was originally tested and found to be non-cancerous but upon removal it turned out to be cancerous.    The vet feels he removed all the cancer and we are hopeful that it doesn’t re-occur in another spot however with Boxers, lumps and bumps can show up.   Even if he gets another bump, it could be non-cancerous.   The vet had a very positive outlook on it not coming back and so do we.  Diesel did fine in his foster home with other canine companions to keep him company, but he has shown severe signs of separation anxiety in his new home (without a canine companion) and he has also tried to hurt himself if left alone in a crate, so we will be looking to place Diesel with another canine companion, or someone that is home more often than not, and a family that is willing to work with him on crate training.

Meet Diesel! is coming into the program shortly from a temporary foster home that pulled him from a kill shelter where he was found as a stray.  He is approximately 5 years old and seems to have had training as he is extremely well behaved, house broken and very gentle and he tends to be more on the "calmer" laid back side.  He knows his basic commands well and loves to catch treats in the air.   Diesel  has the cutest under bite EVER!  He does have a few broken teeth and he will be seeing our vet to have those looked at, once he has settled in.  Our guess is he could have been a rock chewer.  We have no history of Diesel with children, cats, or dogs, however he has had interaction with chickens and shows interest in them but not aggressively and he has been around other dogs and seemed fine with them.  Please check back for updates as we secure a new foster home for this handsome devil and get to know him a little better.

Diesel is an absolutely great dog to have around! There is never any doubt when he wants something as he is very vocal.....the hard part is trying to figure out what it is! Lol. He knows all of his basic commands, LOVES riding in the car and going for walks. He has free roam of the house and, as long as his little brother Jesse is in the house, it goes very well. He has never been left alone, but we didn't want to stress him out unnecessarily so never tried it. He has lost weight and is getting some muscle back....he looks like a boxer again rather than a mastiff:) He will actually do a little circle dance when he is excited now! We are so excited to keep him as our forever dog:)
