As a little girl my family had a Boxer. People in the neighborhood would come by to play with him and I remember I always felt safe while he was around. As an adult when I decided that I wanted a dog in my life, I decided that it should definitely be another Boxer……and boy was I right! Thus began my journey into rescue.

We ‘rescued’ our first Boxer Zeena from a backyard breeder…..before we knew what a backyard breeder was. She had EVERY problem a Boxer dog could have but we loved her so, so much. One of the issues that she had was severe separation anxiety. She needed another dog and in came Tyson. A true rescue our boy Tyson. Locked in a basement and neglected for much of the 3 years of his life. He was like having a 60-pound puppy that needed all the basic training, socialization, etc., that a puppy needs. I always believed he knew we saved him from the minute he came into our home and always seemed grateful. He LOVED to walk and every day he’d come and snort at me when he wanted to walk….he really had me wrapped around his little paw and could get me to do whatever he wanted! He became a certified therapy dog working with children and the elderly and was the best big brother for Zeena. We lost him at 8 years old to a brain tumor.

Zeena and Tyson

Zeena needed a new companion after Tyson and then…..along came Rocco and although he’s only 50% Boxer, his energy and personality is 100% Boxer. He’s a mama’s boy through and through with a BIG personality. Every night at 8:00 we have the “witching” hour where he barks at everyone to play with him. When we lost Zeena at 10 years old and it was rough but Rocco was used to another dog and again we were ready to open our home and hearts to another rescue dog so, in came Tucker, our big boy. He’s a rescue from Puerto Rico. Tucker is the sweetest boy in the world. He’d play with an ant if it would play with him lol…. He‘s a daddy’s boy for sure and has the sweetest temperament of any Boxer I’ve ever had. I cannot imagine my life without rescuing this amazing breed. You can’t save them all but we save as many as we can. It’s the most satisfying feeling knowing you have helped find an unwanted dog its forever home.

I’ve always loved boxers. Maybe it’s the goofy personality. Maybe it’s the kissable face. Maybe it’s the energy they give off.

Kobe and Sophie

Something about the breed has always intrigued me. I rescued my first boxer, Kobe, almost 13 years ago. He is the reason that I’m involved in boxer rescue today. He was my soul dog, if such a thing exists. We rescued Sophie when she was six years old. She’s the reason I encourage people to save a senior boxer. They make the BEST companions. That girl shined so bright in every possible way. Kobe and Sophie passed away at 12 and 13 years of age, and we honored them by rescuing again. Wrigley came in like a wrecking ball and we’ve not stopped laughing at her since the day she arrived. No one loves life more than Wrigley. Bauer came to us from Puerto Rico and he’s the perfect combination of all of my boxers. He’s sweet, loves to snuggle, has endless energy, and is living his best possible life. I rescue because there is a need to find homes for this amazing breed. Sometimes, they find themselves in the “wrong” home, through no fault of their own. I take great pride in knowing that I play a small part in ensuring these dogs find their happily ever after. Working with The Boxer Rescue is my way of honoring my own boxers who have gone to the Rainbow Bridge.

When I decided I wanted to become a fur mom I started researching rescues. I came across The Boxer Rescue and was impressed with the rescue and what they were all about. The rescue really was all about the dogs and their well being. Their dedication to finding the right home for pups in the program who were facing uncertainty was impressive to me. They prided themselves at finding the right fit, to make the pup’s transition to a new family as seamless as possible. At the time, The Boxer Rescue did not have any puppies for adoption and I was determined to become a fur mom to a puppy, but I knew The Boxer Rescue was an organization I wanted to become a part of. I brought Waverley home in April of 2011 and we started volunteering for the rescue the following year when she was old enough to meet and evaluate pups coming into the rescue and be a boxer ambassador for the rescue. Throughout the years Waverley and I have done countless home visits for potential adoptive homes, evaluations of resident pups for families that want to adopt and meet and greets with pups that are coming into the program, pet awareness days promoting the rescue and fundraising events. Volunteering and giving back to boxers in need is something that Waverley and I are passionate about and something that we truly enjoy.

The Boxer Rescue

About Us

The Boxer Rescue, Inc. is a 501c3  non-profit organization serving the New England area.  Our group is made up of dedicated volunteers who have a love and passion for the boxer breed and believe they all deserve a second chance.   Many of us started out as volunteers with other rescue organizations, and quickly discovered that there was a need for boxer rescue right here in New England.  “The Boxer Rescue” was born. Our goal is to promote responsible dog ownership, provide support to boxer owners, inform the public about the needs, qualities and characteristics of the boxer breed, and to be a positive presence in the boxer rescue community.

A boxer in need of rescue, often comes to us as an owner surrender.  However, we do work with shelters to help place boxers that find themselves left behind.   Some of our boxers are starved, neglected, abused, in need of medical treatment, and often times in need of basic training. Some, just find themselves without a family.  We do not have a facility to place our dogs. We are not a shelter. Instead, we may place our boxers in temporary “foster homes” which allows us to learn about the particular needs, personality and temperament of the dogs.  We then interview prospective permanent homes and ultimately match the dogs and homes based on their mutual compatibility.

Our volunteers are instrumental in the journey of our rescue boxers and we could not do what we do without their support and dedication.  Every volunteer has played a part in a boxer’s “happily ever after”.

As a 501c3 non-profit organization, we rely solely on the support and donations of people like you.   Your support allows us to keep rescuing.  It allows us to provide medical care, vaccinations, spays/neuters, and even training, for the boxers in our care.

We thank you for visiting our website.   If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
