Meet Nala!  This beautiful girl is 4 years old, is on the smaller side and has an adorable tail.     She is currently at the shelter because her family moved and they could not take her with them.    Our volunteer met Nala at the shelter and she took treats gently from her hand but Nala was leery of her and did not feel comfortable going up to our volunteer.   She is very timid and leery of people.   She did sit for our volunteer on command for a treat, but did not want to be petted.  She was quiet, no growling or whining, just very unsure.   In the meeting room, she was very curious, watching everything going on around her.  Our volunteer watched Nala play ball with their trainer and she loved to play.   We have been told that Nala has lunged and nipped at one of the volunteers at the shelter while on leash and they were not sure why (she did not break the skin).

Nala seems to be very sweet and we believe she was not given the proper attention or socialization that a Boxer needs.  She is great with direction when given it and seems very eager to learn (she loves the trainer at the shelter).   Nala will need a prior Boxer owner, one that is Boxer savvy and has the time and commitment to work with her.  Her new home will need a professional dog trainer right away to help Nala with her new surroundings and to make a positive transition into her new home.  Once Nala settles in for a little while in her new home, further training needs may need to be assessed.  The Boxer Rescue will work with the new home on finding a trainer and will help pay for Nala’s training needs.   Where Nala is a bit timid, anxious and could have a little bit of reactivity, we will NOT be placing Nala in a home with children or other dogs.      If you are interested in helping with Nala, please contact us at info@theboxerrescue.org.
