April 30, 2017 - UPDATE

Dougie has been with us for 16 days now and has settled in quite well!  His tummy issues have resolved with proper diet, medication, and lowered stress in his environment.  He still has a lot of energy but is also able to have periods of time when he is calm and relaxed.  He gets along with his foster sister Molly who is a 9 yr senior girl. He attempts to engage her in playing with him with rope toys and sometimes she takes the bait and sometimes she shows him her disinterest!  he is very eager to learn and to please his foster mom.  he is strongly food motivated and responds well to all the commands.    He is a champ on the leash and walking and wants to meet every person that he walks past.  He has no problems with being in his crate when needed but does need frequent potty breaks throughout  the day.  He loves to do "Zoomies"  in the fenced in yard which helps with working off some of his energy-so he does need space to run.  He also likes to play catch with tennis balls and knows how to "get it",  and "bring it".    He is a true Boxer that likes to be with his people and likes the physical contact placing his head and legs across his foster mom when on the couch.    He is a sweet, beautiful boy full of potential!

Meet Doug!   This GORGEOUS boy is 1 year old and is a typical HIGH ENERY Boxer.   He is being surrendered to the program and is an emergency place, as his owner is moving next weekend and cannot take him with them.  Doug has never been worked with and needs a lot of work on his manners.  He has also not been properly socialized with other dogs, so introductions need to be done slow as he is an “in your face” type of guy with other dogs, mostly because he just doesn’t’ know what he’s supposed to do.    Doug is craving attention.  He will need a previous Boxer owner, one that loves to work with their pups and a home that is active, so he can get the mental and physical exercise a young Boxer needs.  Doug has the drive to want to learn, so it should be fairly easy and fun to work with this handsome boy!      Because Doug is young and very hyper, we will not be placing him in a home with young children.  Older kids 16+ or no kids. Doug would do okay with a younger female dog and savvier owner that could help with slower introductions as Doug settled in.   He has not been around cats, so no cats for this boy!   We believe in the right home, this boy with THRIVE and become the well-mannered Boxer boy we know he can be!   If you are interested in fostering Doug, Please contact us at info@theboxerrescue.org
